2023 · Digital offset and Risograph, saddle-stitched, 48 pages
A booklet collecting all nine issues of my anonymous Risograph-printed newsletter Emeryville Cool Fun Facts, distributed on utility poles and bus shelters throughout Emeryville during the early pandemic. Topics ranged from train derailments to trans pioneers, from canneries to goats. This edition includes a new tenth issue featuring reader feedback, along with photo documentation of the project in situ and a full-color centerfold showing what the original newsletters looked like.
From the introduction:
One thing I miss about pre-Internet times is public communication through handmade flyers, stapled to poles on the street. I channeled that energy through Emeryville Cool Fun Facts: my own contribution to public space for both personal and communal purposes. This project helped me better understand my city and the people who live here, and I’m happy it brought others unexpected joy during a particularly dark time.
Gabe Meline of KQED included it in his roundup of “8 of the Coolest Things We Saw at the SF Art Book Fair” in 2024. He described the newsletters as “insightful, chatty and often hilarious” and noted, “I brought it home and devoured it in one sitting.”
